Hearts Of Iron 4 Missing Equipment Production

Pro-tip, always have a production line of outdated basic infantry equipment/infantry equipment 1 running at 10-15 factories if you plan to have a meatgrinder campaign. This will keep you from running out of equipment for your troops, which tends to be a big problem for me. They also require less steel than infantry equipment 2+. Also, you might edit your line infantry to use basic and 1, and then your motor/mech and more elite units to take better.

Infantry equip 2+ build so slowly you cannot possibly sustain the losses from high casualty wars. Let's say you have one line of 10 factories producing infantry equipment 1. You research the next level tech and switch over production. Efficiency is halved, so you're only producing half as much for a while. If you had two lines of 5 factories each, you could switch over one line, wait for it to get to max efficiency, then switch the second. This way instead of having one massive dip in production, you have two smaller dips.It only makes sense if you're having shortages of equipment. If you already have a nice stockpile, producing half as much as before for a while isn't a big deal.

Yes, this is a good explanation. It only makes sense if you're having shortages of equipment. If you already have a nice stockpile, producing half as much as before for a while isn't a big deal.Infantry equipment is a great example because it seems like it's easy to keep up with demand until you run into a stalled front that turns into a meat grinder.

As Germany in current game, the eastern front has put a 350+ day deficit on my 5 maxed equipment factories without my even attempting upgrades. That's pretty much catastrophic and I don't think I can fix it because it's getting worse as my position becomes weaker.Prior to the invasion I had surpluses that I figured would hold me over for the duration of the invasion. Didn't go as planned. As Soviets or any other nation expected to face high casualties, always have a production line of 15 factory basic infantry equipment. Infantry Equipment 2+ uses 50% more steel and produces 33% less product as Basic.

If you have a large military, it's more important to keep them supplied with something than to keep them supplied with the best. You could be producing 160+ guns a day from a basic production line at max efficiency, 110 or so for 1, and 60-70 for 2. Use better infantry equipment for motor/mech and any elite shock armies you have (just duplicate your infantry template, upgrade them to elite and change their equipment profile to only use the best equipment, then upgrade the units in your elite armies to those). I found that a easier solution to the infantry weapon shortage is to replace some infantry units in the division template with other units that you have a surplus of like AT or even tanks. Makes the division much more rounded, decreases manpower consumption and lessens the equipment requirement. I had slowly started to convert my solely infantry divs into motorised and then mech. All the while I was fighting the Russian while I was the Japs.

Never ran out of equipment though it went down to 10K at one point. He's referring to making something new, but not a direct upgrade. Like, if you went from inf weapons 2 to 3 there would be no reason to keep make weapons 2. But if you went from light tanks to med tanks, or even light tanks to a new model of light tank, you would need to build up a stockpile of the new stuff before the switch. That in turn means you would need to keep making at least some of the old stuff to keep your older divisions in the field working. He could also be talking about the loss of efficiency when you switch. Switching a few factories at a time might help prevent a major drop in production.
