Looking forward to this film as well. Plot in Kung Fu Movies were always thin.Yes sometimes you get a great plot and the move does get a classic rating if the action holds. But also small plot films like Ong Bak also still rank pretty high and close to classic. A lot of old school Shaw films and so fourth have small plot lines but also have a few with great plots like 5 Deadly Venoms and a tad less of action (My Fav Film). Classics like Gordon Liu's The 36th Chamber of Shaolin has a very thin plot but its one of the all time classics when talking Old School Kung Fu films. Greta action and cinematography can make an action film rank pretty high if done right. Now I Haven't seen this film yet, still Waiting for my copy to hit my Mailbox from Well Go. Will it be better compared to the first and second film.
Following the three 'Ip Man' movies with 'Master Z' is a bit like following the first three 'Rocky' movies with 'The Fast and the Furious.' If you squint you can see.
Most likely not. The second film is a small step down from the first. But still I feel It will be enjoyable on action alone or at least I Hope. Like most folks here, I loved the first two.but why Mike Tyson (being a former boxer) who's not skilled in at all in KungFu or any other form of martial arts whatsoever??? No other skilled actor was available?
Makes as much sense as having Jimmy Kimmel playing the tough guy!HUH? The Guy he is playing is a Boxing Champion not a guy throwing Kicks or acting like he is throwing done with Wing Chun.
So having a Heavy weight Champ play a Heavy Weight Champ is not Ideal? Now I have not seen the scenes yet but from what I heard the action is still good between the two. He plays a greedy land developer making a power play for a local property. Worse yet is the fact that he gets into a physical altercation with Ip Man and begins acting like a 'boxer'. Oh and did I mention that they dub in some of his dialog in Cantonese?Regards.
I just finished watching IP Man 3 and I have to say I'm glad I bought the movie on a blind buy. Now, the story wasn't as strong as the previous two and I didn't think Mike Tyson fit at all, but the action was really good and the final tribute to his wife and Wing Chung was worth the price of the disc. I do hope this is the last one, so the story of IP Man doesn't get diluted as so many have done before.Greetings,Thanks for posting your thoughts Warren. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed Ip Man 3.Regards. Rented the DVD of this title last night and absolutely LOVED it.would have been a buy for me had it not been for the subplot of the main character's wife losing a battle to cancer (a bit too solemn and home-hitting to warrant repeat viewings IMO).
The action setpieces, though? Totally awesome, kickass martial arts sequencing, some of it so lightening-quick you could definitely blink and miss it. I'm looking forward to seeing this over the weekend. Not expecting a masterpiece. I loved the first and was a bit disappointed on the second but still liked it.
The bad British guys just got kinda cartoony.Anyway, while not actually part of this series there are a couple other Ip Man movies (I don't count The Grandmaster as it kinda goes into a whole other direction). The Legend Is Born: Ip Man - 2010 and Ip Man: The Final Fight - 2013. The later I wasn't too impressed with but the former, The Legend is Born, was really good and had many of the same actors as the original. It's kind of a prequel. If your a fan of these movies I would highly suggest looking this one up. If the audient does not understand Cantonese, it is hard to get the real (intended) meaning behind the dialog.
The translation of the sub title cannot catch it, most of the time on any film.Just like a Chinese watching an American made movie. American audient laughed on a joke, but the Chinese didn't laugh, because of not catching it from the sub-title.I agree with you but I guess it might work the opposite on occasion. I recently saw at a local AMC Theater with a friend whose native language is Mandarin. I do not understand Mandarin so I had to read the subtitles. I really enjoyed it and was lol a lot. I think I enjoyed it more than my friend and perhaps many of the Chinese folks in attendance. This movie was released with an Atmos soundtrack and I hope they release it on BD with Atmos.
I will certainly buy it. SoCal71RS and kokishin,I am a died hard friend of Ip Man and Donnie Yen. I just now received Ip3 from my mail box. Will watch it tonight on a 80' projected image on wall from my bed.
Now I own all 5 ip movies in my collection.SoCal71RS - The Legend Is Born: Ip Man - 2010 and Ip Man: The Final Fight - 2013. Are as good as the Donnie Yen's Ip Man I and II, in my opinion. Different leading actors have different method to tell the image of Young and Old Ip Man. I rank 'The Legend Is Born' on 5th position, because of the acting not up to my expectation.
The story telling is too rush with no depth of Ip Man. The leading actor is new to movie business. Not that famous as Donnie Yen or Wong Chow Sunk, the leading actor of 'The Final Fight'. Wong just won the Best leading Actor of Yr 2016 on Golden Horse (Asian Oscar festival as it is called in Asia movie industry). He act deeply on the character of the Old Ip Man. His performance on this film (slow talking, slow moving when not at fight) are right to the point. The back ground scene of the movie - the buildings, the vehicles, the street side food stalls etc are reflecting the actual OLD HONG KONG where I was born.
Ip Man 3 Torrent
I felt I was watching my old days when living in Hong Kong; a history of Old HK. For this, I like this movie even better than the Donnie Yen's I and II. Cannot comment Ip Man 3 yet. Will ad on my comment after I saw it tonight on bed or at the theater (120' screen) at my basement if have time in later days. Stay tuned for happy viewing comment. Kokishin - The Mermaid has a great sale in PRC cinema this year. I have not seen it.
Great reviews on those Chinese movie websites. It is a funny movie that suits most audients for sure.Good to know you like it. It should be better if on 3d.Please also note that the dialog is CANTONESE, not Mandarin. That's why your friend who speaks Mandarin might not captured the real intended meaning of the dialog as well. He needed to rely on the sub-title as well.
China is so huge a nation with numerous dialogs to speak with and to understand. Luck that only the writing has the Traditional and simplified version. When I checked imdb.com amd wikipedia, both say it's in Mandarin. I also checked theaters online that have shown the film.
I did find one reference that says they dubbed it in Cantonese for showing in HK and that it was a lousy dub. I'll ask my friend who is fluent in both Mandarin and Cantonese. The leading actor and most of the other actors are from Hong Kong.
They and the movie director speak Cantonese as their daily dialog. From the movie you can see the lip movement of the actors on close up when they are talking, the sound track seems not sync entirely.
Most likely the sound track is dubbed in Mandarin, replacing the Cantonese instead. The movie is made/produced in PRC and the sale is focused on PRC (Mainland China) market. That's why most of the Chinese produced movies are in Mandarin nowadays. We have off the track of reviewing Ip Man3 already. We should open a new posting if need to talk about Movie dialog instead. Ha!I love posters who use 'off the track' to try and end a discussion so they can have the last word. I agree we're off the track (so I must love myself). BUT, you previously posted you have NOT seen 'The Mermaid'.
My Chinese friend and I have seen it. Because 'The Mermaid' was originally in Mandarin. To stay 'on track', I have the BD of 'IP Man 3'.
As I posted earlier, I watched it in Cantonese using the DTS:X audio track with English subtitles enabled. It was good, not great. Kind of a predictable story line but the few fight sequences were well choreographed and entertaining. I paid $12.99 at Amazon for it so it was a cheap add to my small DTS:X BD collection. I'll gladly pay more for the 'The Mermaid', especially if the BD is in Atmos.BTW, if you prefer not to quote a post (quoting automatically notifies the person quoted), then consider using the MENTION tag with their user name to have the system automatically notify them.
